Gachagua Claims Ichung'wah and Other Mt Kenya Leaders Convinced Ruto to Remove Him

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah and other Mt Kenya politicians of influencing President William Ruto's decision to remove him from office.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), claimed that some leaders from the Mt Kenya region had convinced Ruto that he would politically fade away within two weeks after his removal as Deputy President.

Speaking during a political address at Kĩrĩrĩmbĩ, Gachagua alleged that the politicians had assured the President that his political influence would decline shortly after his impeachment.

“Akunyanĩri a rũrĩrĩ ta Kimani wa Ichungwa nĩo matarire Ruto anjeherie magĩciria ngũthira thutha wa wiki 2 no Ngai akĩndũgamia na nĩ niĩ ũyũ ndũgamĩte na rũrĩrĩ rwitũ,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President claimed that the expectations of those who allegedly pushed for his removal had not materialised, arguing that he had continued to maintain his political influence within the Mt Kenya region.

He attributed his political survival to divine intervention, saying God had sustained him despite the challenges he faced following his fallout with Ruto.

Gachagua's remarks also renewed his criticism of Mt Kenya leaders who remained aligned with the President after his removal from office.

The latest accusations highlight the continuing political fallout from the breakdown of the relationship between Ruto and his former deputy, with both sides seeking to consolidate political support in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ichung'wah and other leaders accused by Gachagua were not quoted responding to the latest claims in the remarks provided.
