Gachagua Says He Will No Longer Announce His Movements Over Assassination Fears

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that he will no longer publicly disclose his movements, citing alleged attempts on his life by individuals he associates with President William Ruto's political camp.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), said he had changed his approach to public engagements following what he described as previous attempts to kill him.

Speaking in Kikuyu during a political address at Kĩrĩrĩmbĩ, the former Deputy President suggested that announcing his movements could expose him to further security risks.

“Thikũ ici ndiratangatha kũrĩa ndĩrathiĩ amu athiriti a Ruto nĩmageretie kũnjũragia hau kabere na kara gaticokagio harĩa karũmwo,” Gachagua said.

He claimed that individuals aligned with Ruto had previously attempted to kill him, adding that he would no longer make his movements public.

The DCP leader's remarks raise fresh concerns over his personal security as he continues his political activities and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua has repeatedly accused individuals linked to the Kenya Kwanza administration of targeting him politically, although the latest allegations require independent verification.

His decision to keep his movements private marks a change in how he intends to communicate his public engagements as political competition intensifies ahead of the next General Election.
