Gachagua Says He Won't Respond to Ndindi Nyoro as He Accuses Ruto of Dividing Mt Kenya
Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), instead accused President William Ruto of working with leaders from the Mt Kenya region to create divisions within the community ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed the prospect of engaging in a political exchange with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, saying he does not intend to respond to the People's Party of Kenya (PPK) leader.
Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), instead accused President William Ruto of working with leaders from the Mt Kenya region to create divisions within the community ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Kikuyu, Gachagua said he was aware of what he described as efforts to fragment the region politically but maintaGachagua Says He Won't Respond to Ndindi Nyoro as He Accuses Ruto of Dividing Mt Kenya
“Ndikwenda kwaria ciĩgiĩ mũtongoria wa PPK. Nĩndĩramenya ũrĩa Ruto areka kũgeria gũtũgayũkania ta nyũmba itũ,” Gachagua said.
The remarks were interpreted as a response to the growing political positioning of Nyoro, who has increasingly emerged as one of the figures seeking to influence political conversations within the Mt Kenya region.
By declining to engage Nyoro directly, Gachagua appeared to shift his focus to President Ruto, whom he accused of working with some leaders from the region to weaken its political unity.
The DCP leader has repeatedly placed Mt Kenya unity at the centre of his political messaging, arguing that divisions among regional leaders could affect the community's influence in the 2027 political contest.
His latest remarks also highlight the emerging differences between political leaders seeking to shape the region's political direction, with Nyoro positioning himself through PPK while Gachagua continues to mobilise support through DCP.
As the 2027 elections approach, the relationship between regional political leaders and their competing mobilisation strategies is likely to remain a significant feature of Mt Kenya politics.
