Rigathi Gachagua Reveals Why He Is Focused on Removing Ruto in 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has maintained that his political focus remains on removing President William Ruto from power, saying he will not allow disagreements involving Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Nyandarua Senator John Methu to distract him.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), appeared to downplay the political exchanges involving the two leaders, insisting that his priority was challenging Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Kikuyu, the former Deputy President said he was determined to keep his attention on the President rather than engage in disputes with other Mt Kenya politicians.

“Niĩ ndirenda kweheria maitho makwa harĩ kũruta President Ruto, nĩkĩo haro ta cia Ndindi Nyoro na Methu itangĩingĩrĩra,” Gachagua said.

His remarks suggest that he does not intend to allow disagreements with Nyoro and Methu to shift attention from his broader political objective of challenging Ruto in the next General Election.

Nyoro, who leads the People's Party of Kenya (PPK), and Methu, an acting DCP Secretary General, have both featured in the growing political conversations surrounding the future of Mt Kenya politics.

Gachagua's latest statement comes amid competing political interests within the region, with different leaders seeking to establish their influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former Deputy President has repeatedly called for Mt Kenya unity, arguing that divisions among regional leaders could undermine efforts to build a common political front against the incumbent.
